"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves."
Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is the Japanese word for "Universal Life Energy". "Reiki" consists of two syllables "rei" which describes the universal feature of this energy and "ki" which means the life force flowing and pulsating in all living things. In the West this name is given to a form of healing that utilises this energy to enhance well-being, wholeness and harmony.
Reiki is an ancient non-intrusive complimentary therapy, a hands-on healing technique. Reiki enhances the body's own ability to heal itself on all levels. It helps restore balance and harmony to the mind, body and spirit. The energy involved in reiki healing is the universal energy that surrounds all life.
Reiki restores the natural balance of the body, providing deep relaxation, and bringing a sense of peace and wellbeing. It is called universal life energy because it draws upon the healing energy of the universe, rather than the energy of the practitioner. The reiki practitioner has been professionally trained to channel the reiki energy. The energy is not directed by the conscious mind of the practitioner but by the subconscious desires of the client.
Reiki is a gentle and soothing treatment and the recipient will feel a deep sense of calm and relaxation, essential for coping with the stresses and strains of our world.
It can be applied through clothes with the client positioned however they are most comfortable in more or less any environment near or far from the practitioner.
The technique is based on the principle that a Reiki practitioner draws on universal energy, which is present everywhere, and lets it flow through their hands and into the person receiving the Reiki to bring balance to their natural energy. We all have an energy field(aura) surrounding our physical body and as we go through life we place demands on this energy field. During a reiki treatment this energy field is re-energised as the practitioner uses specific hand positions that correspond to the physical body, its organs, and the seven chakras.
Reiki can benefit everyone and has a positive effect on all forms of illness and negative conditions.
It is a natural therapy that increases vitality and well-being. It brings the body and mind in to balance enhancing personal awareness, creating positive changes in body, mind and spirit which in turn enables the body to heal itself.
Reiki is often viewed as a preventative therapy; the energy flows to where it is most needed and addresses the root of the problem in the mind, rather than its physical manifestations.
When used in conjunction with conventional medical care it can help improve quality of life and bring some relief to those living with chronic medical conditions.
As all clients are individuals, not all will experience the same treatment benefits and outcome. The acclaimed benefits are wide and varied improving not only the internal body and mind of the receiver by all happening around them to some degree. The obvious benefits of a relaxing healing session are recognised by most doctors and it is generally promoted in this respect.
Tests have proved that Reiki can play an important, positive and comforting role in easing the pain of long-term illness.
A five year trial on the effects of Reiki used alongside conventional treatment was carried out in USA.
Regular Reiki therapy was given to 300 cancer patients who were diagnosed as terminally ill with only three months to live. After two and a half years, over half the group are still alive and their quality of life has much improved. Those patients who died did so more comfortably than would have been anticipated.
